A curved transfer board bridges the gap between two seats so a person can slide across rather than be lifted. The arc shape follows the natural sweeping path of a seated transfer, which makes it especially useful where the two surfaces sit at an angle – wheelchair to car seat, or commode to bed.

Using a transfer board
Position the two surfaces as close and level as possible, lock any brakes, tuck one end of the board under the thigh and rest the other end on the destination seat. Lean away from the direction of travel and shuffle across in small moves. Ask an occupational therapist to check technique if you are new to board transfers.
