Commodes & Over Toilet Frames
Commodes and over-toilet frames give a safe seat wherever toileting needs to happen. Bedside commodes help at night, mobile shower commodes let a person be wheeled over the toilet and into the shower, and over-toilet frames add height and armrests to an existing toilet. The range includes folding, extra-wide, tilt-in-space and electric tilting models, plus commode cushions.

Buying guide
- Decide where the commode will be used: beside the bed, over the toilet, in the shower or all three.
- For mobile commodes, measure doorways and check the chair will clear the toilet pan height.
- Look at seat width and user weight rating, and whether arms swing away for side transfers.
- Tilt-in-space and attendant-propelled models are usually chosen with an occupational therapist.
- Check that brakes lock on all wheels you need.
Questions
What is the difference between a commode and an over-toilet frame?
An over-toilet frame sits over a toilet only. A commode has its own pan or bucket so it can be used anywhere, and many also fit over a toilet.
